Olympics and Year 2
Well now that the Olympics are over I can get myself ready to start teaching… It amazes me that some of these olympians are the same age as my students. Gabby Douglas is 16 years old - the same age as my sophomores and Missy Franklin is 17 years old, she is going into her senior year of High School with 5 gold medals. I think that is incredible and I only wish my students could channel that kind of dedication into their education. Obviously- the drive and dedication brought forth by Olympians such as Gabby and Missy is above and beyond most people have, but I want a fraction of that from my students. It is clear that it is possible to achieve great things at a young age, how can I get my students to recognize that ability within themselves?

Seventeen Magazine signs a “Body Peace Treaty” with its readers
Shop’s been dropped: Seventeen magazine’s editor-in-chief Anne Shoket, bowing to the pressures of fourteen-year-old Julia Bluhm’s 84,000-signature petition, agreed to stop photoshopping the girls featured in her magazine. The new “Body Peace Treaty” makes a pledge to diversity within the magazine regarding body shape, size and skin color. In an interview with NPR, Shoket assured listeners Photoshop would only be used to fix errant strands of hair or acne blemishes to “make you look like you would on your best possible day.” Excellent work, Julia. source
